The Living Rainforest is Hampstead Norreys' local tropical rainforest and home to more than 650 rainforest plants and animals, including some rare and endangered species.
You may have already come across Cinnamon the sloth, who gained celebrity status in Channel 4's 2018 Village of the Year where Hampstead Norreys reached the finals.

Talk
2019 Children will love this interactive talk from The Living Rainforest where they'll be sharing the work they do on planet sustainability, including their latest project on pollinators. |
![]() Bug Hunts 2019
The Living Rainforest will be running bug hunts throughout the day so make sure you visit their stand to find out the running times and to get signed up. There'll also be plenty of hands on activities and a bug exhibit on their stall so they are well worth a visit. |
Treasure Hunt
2019 This treasure hunt starts at the Living Rainforest stand and will take you on an adventure around GreenFest seeking the answers to some pretty challenging questions. Do you think you've got what it takes? |
ACTIVITIES & CRAFTS
We had around 20 crafting activities taking place across GreenFest, from The White Hart all the way to Dean Meadow, and we are planning other exciting activities in 2022.
Whatever your age, you’ll have fun participating in activities that include transforming tetrapak cartons into bird feeders, making bird seed feeders from fir cones, bracelets out of crisp packets, eco glitter in all the colours of the rainbow and so much more.
In 2019, little ones could try their hand at making leaf families and fashion crowns and bracelets from natural materials. The not so little had a go at whipping up their own eco-friendly body scrub and newspaper bags.
We even had eco-friendly face painters!

GAMES
On the Dean Meadow you'll again have the chance to participate in a whole host of traditional games and sports for free.....all with a plastic twist. We'll be wanging ecobricks over wellies, hooking plastic rather than ducks and ball games will be played throughout the day. There'll even be a trebuchet! Guess what the balls are made from though?!
SCHOOLS
In 2019 11 local schools took up our challenge to create a sustainability-themed artwork for GreenFest. The theme then was to fashion a sculpture or creative artwork from plastic, litter, waste, natural materials or upcycled products, that highlighted any aspect of our set theme, 'Our Planet'.
The pieces were on display throughout Hampstead Norreys on GreenFest day, and we were blown away by the quality of their work.
This year we have broadened the way in which entries can be submitted - over to you schools to show your creativity again. We can't wait!

Ecobrick Bench 2019

Hampstead Norreys Primary School is home to the UK's first snake ecobrick bench. The Hampstead Norreys Community Shop Sustainability Group (Phew! Bit of a mouthful!) collected ecobricks made by school pupils and the wider community.
501 bottles and 178.2kg of plastic (saved from landfill) later and Sammy the snake was built and admired by one and all at Greenfest, showing what can be achieved when you put the rubbish we generate to another use.
The Downs School
SOAPBOX SUSTAINABILITY
In 2019 The Downs School pupils jumped on their soapboxes at GreenFest to dish out their opinions on a wide-ranging set of environmental subjects.
In 2022 the Downs School will again be playing a key role at GreenFest - once again, watch this space.
